Doin was born in Watsonville, CA to Doin Sr. and Geraldine McAnally. Doin graduated from Tulare Union High School in 1966. He met his wife Donna Whitney, being introduced by his sister, Janet McAnally, and married February 25, 1971 at the Four Square Church in Tulare, by Doin’s uncle, Glenn McAnally, a pastor.
Doin was an iron worker in the local 155 out of Fresno, and started his business with his Dad in 1969, which remained in business until 1997. Doin McAnally’s Construction, Clean-up and Grading helped build the Diablo Nuclear Powerplant in Avila Beach, and also the State Prison in Corcoran. After closing the business he became a mobile home hauler for Tenhet Transportation from 1997-2006. He loved that second career and he delivered mobile homes from California to most of the western states.
He loved deep sea fishing and fishing at local lakes and canal banks. He had a passion for prospecting gold in Coarsegold, Columbia and Lake Isabella, CA, and was often successful finding a nugget! He loved showing his grandchildren Matthew and Mason how to pan for gold. His favorite show was Goldrush on the Discovery Channel; it became a family ritual to share every Friday night. He very much loved traveling and road trips with his family and would often make-up his own “traveling songs” to sing to the grandkids on the way to the coast or the mountains. He loved telling stories about his life, travels and experiences. This frequently allowed him to make friends wherever he found himself.
He enjoyed his life and especially time with family and his two grandkids. It was an easy choice when going out to eat; he loved his Chinese food from Jean Jean’s in Tulare.
Sister Janet McAnally, of Sudan, Texas preceded Doin in death. He is survived by his sisters Kathy Pollard, of Littlefield, Texas, Penny McAnally and her fiancé Tony Oliveira; brother, Mike McAnally and his wife Dena, both families of Tulare CA; daughter and son-in-law, Katie and James Mills, son and daughter-in-law, Doin III and Natalie McAnally, and grandchildren, Matthew and Mason McAnally, all of Tulare CA. and 8 Nephews and 2 Nieces.
A graveside service will be held Monday, October 19, 2020 at 10:30 at Visalia Cemetery, 1300 W Goshen Avenue.
