David Austin

David Joseph Austin of Visalia passed away suddenly June 31, 2021.
He was born to Frank and Debbie Austin on August 12, 1980. He attended Maple and Pleasant Schools, Mulcahy Middle School, and Tulare Western High School, graduating as a valedictorian in 1998.
Davy was active in Tulare Little League and youth wrestling. He received Jesus as Lord as Savior at age 6 at Tulare First Southern Baptist Church – now Prosperity Avenue Baptist where he was heavily involved in children’s and youth church activities.

At Tulare Western, he wrestled, played football and baseball, and played trumpet in the band.
At graduation he received a full academic scholarship to Cal State University, Long Beach, from which he received his B.A. degree, majoring in business finance.
He returned to Tulare when his mom became terminally ill. He worked for Mission Care Group in Visalia, then at Ruiz Foods in Dinuba. He decided to change professions and became a substitute teacher, then a full-time math teacher, first at Tulare Union and then at Farmersville High School. He coached wrestling and football at both Tulare Union and Farmersville.
Davy is preceded in death by his mother, Debbie Austin, his grandparents, Frank Sr. and Allina Austin and Walt and Arlene Keithley.
He is survived by his father, Frank Austin Jr. of Tulare; step-mother Raquel Burciaga Austin, also of Tulare; brothers Mateo Austin of Visalia and Luke Austin of Chattanooga, Tennessee; aunt Denise Keithley of Visalia; and uncle Walt Keithley of Duncan, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be held at Prosperity Avenue Baptist Church (1781 E. Prosperity Ave., Tulare) at 11:00 a.m., July 5, 2021. Interment is in the columbarium at the Old Tulare Cemetery, 900 E. Kern St., Tulare.
