Bernice F Green

Bernice Joy Fairbrother was born July 15, 1925 in New Meadows, Idaho to Guy and Gladys Bennett Fairbrother. She peacefully left this earth on June 27, 2021---just a few weeks short of her 96th birthday.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Maurice “Red” Green, and her grandson Patrick Curti, as well as her siblings Dorothy Shook, Elaine Rowland and Robert Fairbrother.
Bernice grew up on the family farm near Lake Fork, Idaho. She met her future husband, Red, who was in the depression-area Civilian Conservation Corps near McCall, Idaho. Bernice and Red were married in November 1942 and lived in various places around the United States while Red was in the Army. At the end of his service time, they moved to Eugene, Oregon where Red attended the University of Oregon, followed by San Francisco and Coalinga. In 1951 Red and Bernice finally settled in Tulare where they started what is now the accounting firm of M. Green and Company. Red was a CPA and Bernice was a bookkeeper. Bernice and Red quickly became actively involved in all aspects of the community that they would call home for the rest of their lives.
In 1954 they adopted a son, Kevin and in 1956, a daughter, Janis. Bernice was very involved in the children’s activities, often including several of Kevin and Janis’ friends on trips to the coast, the cabin in Shaver Lake, and always fun birthday parties. Bernice was involved in too many local and regional activities to mention, but of particular note were her recognitions for decades of leadership in the Girl Scouts and being named Tulare Chamber of Commerce’s Woman of the Year in 1992. Bernice had an amazingly wide group of friends—a true compliment to who she was. She was an accomplished snow and water skier, bowler, golfer, bridge player, piano player, and jigsaw puzzle enthusiast.
Bernice is survived by her son, Kevin (Theresa), and daughter Janis Curti (Phillip), grandchildren Justin Curti (Navin), Nick Curti, Allison Green, and Meryl Scott (David), as well as great-grandchildren Domenica, Amelia, and Enzo Curti.
A special thanks to the staff at Quail Park Lodge and Memory Care for their assistance in mom’s later years as well as the compassionate staff at Kaweah Delta Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at the Tulare Community Church, 1820 North Gem Street in Tulare with viewing at 9:30am and the service at 10:00am, followed by a burial service at the old Tulare Cemetery, 900 East Kern Street in Tulare.
