Obituary
Wydel Marie Taylor was born in Idabel Oklahoma on August 23, 1924 to the union of Lavenia Butler and Hill Johnson. She was raised in Idabel, Oklahoma where she received all of her early education. She was the fourth child of six siblings. In Wydel’s early teen years she accepted Christ in her life.
Wydel had five Children in Idabel Oklahoma and later relocated to Hanford, Ca and had her four youngest children. Wydel loved providing for her children. So work wasn’t an option for her, it was a must so she rolled up her sleeves and started her journey as a seamstress, working in the fields, chopping cotton, and cutting grapes. As a single parent of 9 children she desired a steady home for them so she purchased her home in 1959 on 10th Ave where she raised and educated her children. Her philosophy was her kids needed to work just as hard as she did. When it came to discipline Wydel didn’t play she would send the kids outside to get their own switches and if they came back and it was too small she would send them back out to pick a bigger one.
Wydel was known for her many names, Ms. Wydel, Mom, Grandma, Big Grandma, and GG Ma. These are names that brought a smile to her face. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, riding in the country, traveling, and being around family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and two sons Joe Broadus and Cardell Young. She leaves behind her son Mack Ray McClough Johnson and wife Loretta Johnson of Hinesville Ga, Daughter Ollie Mae Travis of Sacramento Ca, Son Henry James Broadus of Oklahoma, daughters Hattie Marie Sanders and Jewel Young both of Sacramento ca, Daughter Betty Jean Young and son Pleas Young Jr. both of Hanford Ca. 26 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, 3 great great grand children, and host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
As Wydel’s health began to diminish, her family along with adopted grand-daughter/care giver Sharon Butler and spiritual daughter Linda Bland was right by her side taking care of her.
We must remember Wydel for everything that she was and cherish the times we shared with her. Wydel will forever live in our hearts.
TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!!
