Darrell Ray Bonds

Darrell Ray Bonds, 61, of Reedley California left this life on January 5, 2024. Darrell was born in Fresno California on September 23, 1962, the second child of Billy R. and Carolyn G. (McDonald) Bonds. Darrell spent his entire life in the Reedley area, attending Great Western Elementary, Grant Junior High and Reedley High School.

Darrell had two sons, Matthew Lee Bonds with Susan Long, and Joshua Ray Bonds with Karla (Lewis) Bonds. Then with Michelle (McFarland) Bonds he inherited two step-daughters, Carolyn Simmons and Gayla Lewis. Darrell was predeceased by his mother Carolyn, brothers Jimmie Bonds and Curtis Bonds. He, his father Billy, son Matthew and daughter-in-law Guadalupe (Chavez) Bonds left this life together entering eternal rest. Survivors include his son Joshua and daughter-in-law Andrea (Pillado) Bonds, three grandchildren Jeremiah, Isla, and Ameliana Bonds, aunts, uncles, cousins and beloved friends.

In his youth, Darrell participated in the Reedley Judo club, earning a black belt degree in Judo; even traveling with the club to Japan for advanced competition. Whatever Darrell pursued, he did to the fullest, putting heart and soul into the endeavor. Like Bonds' men before him, he took an interest in mechanics, tinkering with motorcycles and automobiles with a keen interest in the classic cars. Darrell also learned the trade of tile setting under the guidance of his Uncle Gerald McDonald. There are many homes in the area that display his handiwork.

Darrell inherited the Bonds charm, ever ready with that infectious smile and genuine care and concern for not only friends and family but folks in general. A local police officer recently shared a story about how Darrell would stop by the PD and sweep the parking lot in exchange for a cup of coffee and a cigarette. If a helping hand was needed you could count on Darrell to be the first one to show up. He would walk or bicycle, sometimes extended distances, just to check in with family and friends, saying “Hi, how ‘ya doin?” We will sorely miss those visits and cheerful words.

A candlelight vigil was held at the Bonds’ home on Friday January 12, 2024 to commemorate and honor these lives so untimely lost. Final services for Billy and Darrell will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 29th, in the Reedley Cemetery Service Building.
